Der Name Futsal setzt sich aus den spanischen Begriffen «Futbol» und «Salon» zusammen und bedeutet so viel wie Hallenfußball. Es handelt sich hierbei um die offizielle Hallenfußballvariante der FIFA.
Futsal ist für Laien kaum zu unterscheiden vom klassischen Fußball. Im Detail gibt es jedoch entscheidende Unterschiede. Es wird 5 gegen 5 auf dem Handballfeld (ohne Banden) mit Handballtoren gespielt. Der Ball ist gegenüber einem normalen Fußball kleiner und sprungreduziert und damit speziell für harte (Hallen)Böden geeignet, außerdem ist der Ball leichter zu kontrollieren. Dazu kommen einige intelligente Regeln aus anderen Sportarten wie z.B. kumulierte Mannschaftsfouls, Nettospielzeit und eine verschärfte Rückpassregel. Diese Aspekte sorgen für hohe Dynamik, fördern eine gute Technik und garantieren faires Spiel das diesen Sport so faszinierend machen.
Futsal wird überall auf der Welt gespielt. Vor allem in Brasilien und Uruguay (wo es um 1930 seine Anfänge hatte), aber auch in Spanien, Portugal, Italien oder den Niederlanden sowie in Osteuropa hat die offizielle Spielart des Fußball-Weltverbandes FIFA bereits eine ausgeprägte Fangemeinde. In Deutschland ist der Futsal noch eine Randsportart, entwickelte sich aber im Laufe der letzten Jahre immer weiter, sodass inzwischen sogar Regional- und Verbandsauswahlen bestehen und ein gut organisierter Ligabetrieb vorhanden ist.

For those familiar, futsal can hardly be distinguished from classic football. However, there are crucial differences in detail. The game is played 5 against 5 on the handball field (without boards) with handball goals. The ball is smaller than a normal football and has less bounce and is therefore particularly suitable for hard (indoor) surfaces. The ball is also easier to control. There are also some intelligent rules from other sports such as cumulative team fouls, net playing time and a stricter back pass rule. These aspects ensure high dynamics, promote good technique and guarantee fair play, which is what makes this sport so fascinating.
Futsal is played all over the world. The official game of the world football association FIFA already has a strong fan base, especially in Brazil and Uruguay (where it began around 1930), but also in Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands as well as in Eastern Europe. In Germany, futsal is still a fringe sport, but has developed further over the last few years, so that there are now even regional and association selections and a well-organized league operation.
